What amp Pro Spin Jetti controller do I need

guys,

I am thinking about going with an active timer using the Foirotti timer and Igor 12-5 prop. do I need the 66amp pro spin or can I get away with the 44amp?

I plan on running 6 cells and either Cobra or bad ass motor for my full size stunt ship

Looking at the prop chart for the Cobra 3525/18 a 12x6 APC pulls 27 amps on a 6cell LiPo (29.6V).  Based on that a 44 amp ESC should be OK. The max RPM for this setup is around 10K.  To get good RPM regulation you need to be running below this amount.  So your set RPMs will be in the 8.5K to 9K range.  So pick a prop and RPM needed for your ship. Then pick a motor that will support this setup and look at the prop data for max AMP draw.  D>K

For "full size," 66 is best in my opinion.  Line length, ambient temperatures, wing loading, and others may affect amp draw and ESC heating.  I have used the Igor's 12 x 5N and run about 10,400 and with the 11 x 5 about 10,800.

Average amp draw will be about 20 ish, but peaks significantly higher.  Likely on amp values only, either will work, but most use 66.

I recently posed this question for the same timer and was advised that the Spin44Pro was just fine for the Foirotti regulating a BadAss 3515-710 so that is what I bought for my first replacement ship after the fire.  I have it installed and bench tested and it appears fine.  Another local expert flier uses the Spin44 on the same motor using Igor's timer.  I have dropped back to 5 cell batteries.  I don't find the extra weight justifies the rather minor performance difference.

thanks guys,

I plan to go back to 5 as soon as my current thunderpower 6 cells degrade...however I just bought them this year, broke them in have maybe 3 flight each so I am hoping that will be a couple of years

As noted, the Spin 44 will run it fine and with the same program.  I'm not sure that there is a flying performance difference.  The 44 should be fine with adequate cooling.  I have seen them used on profiles, and full fuse around 600 squares.  I assumed that Igor would have used the 44 and saved weight if it seemed as good in the long run.  Maybe he will comment.  Again, just an opinion :-)

I know the ESC Spin is very good but Castle Talon 60 has good ones, talk to David Chang about the test with Talon 60.

I have multiple castle edge 50's but was told their reaction tie is not fast enough to provide the results needed for your active timer. Is the Talons reaction times faster than the edge.

forgive me  if I am not using the correct terminology.

Thanks, I would rather stay in the castle family if they provide the same performance.

Tim,

Edge 50 has delay due to datalogger, disabling it improves performance.

Talon does not have the datalogger and was developed for use in helicopters being faster in rpm change.
