Viper EL Refit is dust
« on: August 04, 2011, 07:03:44 PM »
After this years NATS and seeing some hot electric setups I had made the decision to try some electric power. I will be redesigning a purpose built aircraft this year for next year.

In the mean time I choose to retro fit my 08 Viper to electrics. Motor is a E flight power 25. Prop is a 13x 4.5 pusher. Battery is the 3300 MAH Hyperion. ESC is the ice lite 50 and the M9 timer tops it off. I bought 4 battery's and will by more should this work well./ The airplane retro fitted weighs 53 OZ ready to fly. CG is far forward however I never checked it with a full tank on glow.

The wing area is approx 640 and straight forward design. After flying a guys EL plane at the NATS one night in the grass I knew then this is the direction to go. I have tried the same thing over and over for 20 years now and end with the same results. Big airplanes with heaver weights in the nose are not for me. So I am hoping this weekend to try this new set up and revisit a airplane that actually flies with some real performance. PS guys if it has little penetration its tail heavy, don't add weight (you'll end up same as GLO) Shorten the tail. You don't need long moment arms to lever the weight anymore. These engines are close to FOX 35 weight with 60 power.

Picture to follow soon

Sparky,

Are you going to have it ready for Allen's contest or the St. Louis contest?

Ouch!
What happened? And were you able to save any of the electronics?

Exactly ...
Is there anything we need to know in order to help make the next ship a success?
What, if you got to fly it enough to say, did you get a chance to learn?
