Title: UBEC SBEC?
Post by: Dwayne on September 16, 2011, 06:30:09 AM
Hi all, I'm looking at brushless ESC's on line and some have UBEC on them and others have SBEC on them Whats the difference and wich one would I use with a Hubin Fm-2sr timer sold by Brodak.
Thank you
Dwayne

Can you post a link? As far as I know both UBEC and also SBEC are separate units (U stands for universal, S for switching) and they are use with OPTO ESC or for larger power than integrated BEC can supply. If it is so, you have to chosse better ESC with integrated BEC. All our timers use so little power, that you not need to worry about type of BEC, just check voltage, as some timers can be designed for 5V and som BEC can be even for 6-7V.

If you have really UBEC or SBEC intergated ON THE ESC, then again, both will work well, but linerar (non switching) BEC costs less and it is also better because of smooth voltage.

Hi Dwayne
The FM-2SR timer ONLY works with Castle ICE or Phoenix ESC's in "Set RPM" mode.

It is strange - SBEC and they say linear ... ok, something new for me ... in any case, you not need to worry about name of the BEC (beside some special ESCs with hight voltage 6-7V)

However that ESC does not have governor as far as I understand, it is really better to use something tested in C/L models.

Thanks Igor I'm going to buy a Ice Lite.
