E Flite 15 shaft reversal
« on: November 14, 2015, 04:54:24 PM »
Next week I will start the construction of a Vector 40 electric.  I have a new E Flite 15 that I want to front mount.  I read the instructions that came with the motor regarding the process for removing the shaft and reversing the mount.  The instructions indicated that I might need a small hammer to help remove the shaft. After I removed the back hub and the three set screws I tried to remove the shaft.  No luck, it was tight and then some.  I tried a small hammer which didn't help.  I then used a large hammer and a punch and finally got it out.  When I reinstalled the shaft I needed to use the hammer and punch all over again.  Is all of this pounding necessary??? It sure can't be good for the motor.  I have the motor re-assembled and it turns alright.  Is there some way I can apply electricity to see if it will run ok or do I need to assemble the entire electrical package (motor, ESC and timer) so I can test it?

Thanks

You will need the esc, timer, battery and prop to run a test. Next time you need to pull the shaft use a drill press with the chuck closed then press the shaft out.

You will need an ESC like Bob said. If you just want to see of it runs Ok, you don't have to have a prop and you could use a "servo tester " instead of the timer.

I found this video on Youtube, I need to pick up one of the Arbor Presses the next time I am at Harbor Freight. I have a project in the works that needs the shaft reversed.

Just use some music wire and your drill press. That's what I do.

I just tried the shaft reversal with my E-Flite 25 using the drill press. I put a large diameter music wire like Warren suggested and pushed the shaft into the opposite position. Did everything the same as shown in video except use the drill press instead of the arbor press.

drill press worked great, thanks for the tip to use the drill press Warren...
