Twin electric with two wheel gear vs tri-gear
« on: November 23, 2007, 01:26:52 PM »
I thought I'd change the configuration of the landing gear on my twin
to a two wheeler.  Seems to fly equally well, and I think it looks better in profile
than the trike setup.  Other photo's on this post show it in tri-gear - I think it looked a little odd that way.

What do you think ?  feedback appreciated.

Hi Will

I kinda prefer the tail dragger look.  The bird to me has kind of a retro look, especially with the camo.  You might be able to carry that look a little further: push the bubble aft some, or eliminate it completely and make the top forward fuselage and nose look all glazed together in panels.

No matter what you do that is an AWESOME project you have there!  CLP** BW@

Hi Will,
I thought you did a great job with this model, but I agree with your decision! It looks better as a tail dragger. It looks much more aggressive and serious now!

It was mentioned in another thread you were building a new twin. Will this one be retired so early in it's life?  :( Unless there is an unknown problem, it seems there is still room for improvement with this twin (I get this feeling from your comments made in earlier post's).

Either way I look forward to your future projects!  ;D

Thanks Dennis & Mike;

Yes, I like this set-up better.

Mike, I was thinking of building the next twin, with these numbers, but moving the canopy
and thickening the airfoil somewhat.

The only thing that bothers me about this airplane is the
possible problems with presentation in judging with mil. colors vs typical stunt paint pattern.
I do not know why it is bothering me so much.

You are right, I do not want to retire this airplane, it flies extremely well
Think I should just paint this airplane over, and trash the camo. ?

Hi Will,
I like the look as a taildragger as well.
I don't see a presentation problem with the camo. The in-flight shots on the other thread proves that she presents well. Personally I like the far forward canopy: it looks purposeful.
All you could do is add lightness!

Hi Will,
I have to agree with Dean. I don't see the paint scheme being a problem in the judges eyes at all. There have been many airplanes with military schemes that have done well in competition.

Three from memory at recent Nationals are Mike McHenry who won Advanced in 2006 (Zero), Rich Giacabone (sp?) who placed in the top five at this years Nationals in Advanced (Stuka) and Matt Neuman who placed in the top ten at this years Nationals in Open (Stuka). I may have even forgotten someone?

It's your call on refinishing the ship, but that seems pretty drastic. The wing thickness may be a problem you can't get around, so work with what you got and if it doesn't get the job done then it's time to move on.

I know this was a big stepping stone which will make the next twin that much better!
