Turnigy source?
« on: June 04, 2010, 10:44:14 AM »
Is there a source for Turnigy motors in the US? I know you can get them thru Hobbyking at a very reasonable price, but shipping takes awhile, and by the time you pay shipping costs the price gets right up there.

I try to buy a batch of stuff from Hobby King to minimize the shipping costs and the delivery is usually in 4-5 days from the order date.

Don't know about a US source.  Sounds like a business opportunity for someone.

Hobby King has warehouses in the U.S, UK, and Germany. You do not have to do anything specific to have your order shipped from the U.S. (Ohio) location. If the products are stateside I think they are shipped from there.

Kim.

Hi Jim,I plan on purchasing a boatload of Turnigy Motors,Batteries,Ect. from Hobby King in the next couple weeks for resale to the US to be shipped from the US so you can get them in a couple days via priority mail.I am a well established Ebay Top Rated Power Seller and will have these items available at a very reasonable cost.I will have them for a Buy It Now or Best Offer.STUNTHANGER MEMBERS will get these for MY COST plus a small handling fee and actual shipping. All I need is a wish list as I am still figuring what the most popular choices will be.I do not want to stock anything that we cannot use for ECL flying. The R/C boys have enough toys!!!!!!!!!!If any one has suggestions for motors, batteries,ESC's.ect PLEASE post them on stunt hanger.I should have an order placed by 6/20/10 so the sooner the better. My Ebay user name is traxgworx.Short for Traxler Guitarworx.

That's great to hear Jeff. I would like to try one of the 35 48 900 series motors. I am also going to be looking for some 4s3000 or 4s 4000 type batteries.

Jeff,

I would be interested in components for a ship like the Vector or Oriental. Looking at the "post your setup" thread, that means motors like Turnigy 38-48 900kv or Turnigy SK 35-42 1000kv. Also batteries like 4s2650 or 4s3000 I think. Not sure about ESC's from HobbyKing, seems like CC's Phoenix ESCs are the way to go. A decent charger probably is a good idea too. I've recently bought the Turnigy Accucel-6.

Hey Chris,
Thanx for the suggestions!!I will probably get at least a dozen each of those size motors to start with to see how it goes.Same for the batteries.I will get just a few chargers to start with.I am also looking into something for the 15 to 25 size ships that you can stick in the back seat and get a couple lunch time flights on as well as a 1/2A size setup and an "AMPED UP" 1/2A setup for the more high performance 1/2A ships. It would be nice to have an E-Shark 15 with a couple spare batteries in the back pocket just for that lunchtime fun!!!!!Oh Yes,I can't forget the guys that fly the larger .60+ tuned pipe ships.Any input on motor/battery combos for these ships will be appreciated.I hope to get my order in very soon so when I get back from the Nats I will have boxes of goodies!!!If you are reading this and have any ideas/suggestions PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE post a reply to this post.

Jeff,

The size for my Vector 40 and one that is useful for almost any stunter in this size range (~48 oz, 450- 550 sq in) is the Turnigy SK 35-48 1100 Kv. This spins a 12-4.5 pusher at 9400 RPM and gives about 5.4 sec laps on 63-65 foot lines. The 900 Kv Turnigy of the same size wouldn't govern correctly in that RPM range -- my experience. This motor is $19 from Hobby King.

I'm using the CC ICE 50 A ESC, and Zippy 4S 2650 batteries.

I'd be up for a couple of these motors and I will soon need 4 more batteries.

Keep us posted.

I would suggest the power supply for the Accucel charger in addition to the charger itself. The larger power supply unit is very popular and often out of stock at HobbyKing. The charger needs a power supply, having none itself. I think it is the 25A version. I already have a 42-50 motor and several Turnigy 5S 3300 batteries (suitable for the 750KV motor) but most guys are using the higher KV smaller motors as noted in the other posts, for which 4S batteries are probably better. My "knowledge" of all this is very thin; best thing is to do what you are doing here, basically putting together a wish list from experienced electric flyers. I would be up for power supply, a motor or two, and some 4S batteries in the 3000 range. I would stay away from the non-CL timers and ESCs and stick with known successful units.

Hi All,
Finally got a few Turnigy goodies from Hobby King. The only way to get a real price break is by ordering more than 8 seperate orders from them.I offered to spend 3K and they would not budge on the price until I place 8 orders.I purchased a half dozen motots for larger aircraft and a few 4s 3000mAh batteries to see how they go.Here is what I can sell the items for after figuring price, freight from China( 1.5 cents per gram),Ebay/Paypals 15% and $3.00 for my time.
Turnigy AerodriveXP SK42-50 650 kV  Ebay item no. 260641042955 $45.00
Turnigy AerodriveXP SK 35-48 900KV  Ebay item no. 220643433585 $34.00
        Turnigy Aerodrive C 35-42 1000 KV    Ebay item no. 220643438719 $34.00
        Turnigy 4s 20C 3000 mAh Li-Po          Ebay item no. 220643455051 $37.00
The prices listed are the offers I WILL ACCEPT for these items to Stunthanger members only. You must mention Stunthanger in the notes section or it will be rejected. If you want it in 3 days and not weeks look these up.These items will ship to you via USPS Priority mail for $4.95 additional with no packing/handling fee.I am a TOP RATED EBAY POWER SELLER and you won't br disappointed with my customer service!!!!!!My Ebay seller ID is "traxgworx"(short for Traxler Guitarworx)
