Reverse polarity on ESC
« on: July 14, 2013, 07:59:48 PM »
I don't know if anyone else has ever been stupid enough to get the battery to ESC polarity reversed but I am.  Made a nice little fire on the corner of the Phoenix 45 and the magic smoke escaped...stinks also.
Late night work and I soldered the deans connector backwards on the ESC...
Don't do it unless you want some instant excitement.   y1
Everyone else here is likely smart enough not to do this...just shows that PHD mechanics should not touch soldering irons.  LL~ HB~> HB~>

:( Sorry to hear that, probably of little comfort, but I think CC offer a fixed price replacement/repair service. It may be worth getting in touch with them.

I started out with nothing and still have most of it left.....

The Phoenix 45 is discontinued.  Castle will probably replace it with an ICE series.

Right you are!

I Ordered a Phoenix Edge Lite 50 last night from Tower...$84.00...best price I could find on short notice.  The Edge series does seem to have a number of improvements over the ICE series...even if most of them seem to be aimed at Helicopters!

John,
I didn't know about the Castle repair/replacement facility...thanks for that info.

Every Sci Fi movie made before 1970 defeated the monster somehow by reversing the polarity on something, drove my dad nuts everytime LoLing. Even Ghost Busters crossed the streams.

MM

Well, it sure killed my ESC... LL~, and left a lot of black smoky residue inside the airplane, and a lot of Ozone smell in the air!!!

Oh, Randy, as an electronics design engineer, I can assure you that I never ever hook things up backwards.

My office often smells like burnt epoxy, wiring, and phenolic for entirely different reasons.  Yup.  Honest.  Really.

Hey -- New York City is surplussing one of their bridges.  Do you want to buy it?

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Yeah Dean, the airplane is OK...just a little dark coloration in the battery compartment.  n~
I was able to pull the arming plug before it actually caught fire (the airplane that is, the ESC is CRISPY)...
I held out a long time on this electric stuff.  I'm beginning to realize that may have been the smart thing.  I'm up to my neck in it now...one airplane almost finished, and another mostly framed up...The second one is a modified Whitely Shoestring.  Big hopes!
