Title: Thrust washer/collet
Post by: Randy Powell on August 07, 2012, 05:17:14 PM
So, I have a E-Flight Power motor from Horizon Hobbies. It comes with a very light collet sort of thrust washer/prop mount. Is this adequate? Seems like it would be a good idea to have a somewhat heavier unit. Yes?

They work very well, Randy. I have been using them for a year and a half now, well over 400 fights, with no problems.

Randy - you have to remember that electrics dont have the same vibration as IC - the collets are ample for our needs -

Some people go to an 8mm shaft on 5mm collect - but its not really necessary unless you want to turn a BIG prop

I know that you don't need as beefy a setup as IC, but I was just curious as it's all aluminum and seemed somewhat fragile. But if they hold up fine, great.

Thanks for the responses.

I popped a collet doing a figure 9!! The motor shaft was fine so a fragile aluminum collet may be cheap insurance.  ;D
