How much difference between the following motors?
« on: November 01, 2020, 12:33:24 PM »
a model I am about done with, calls for a Scorpion 3026/710 motor. I have two choices other than it, namely a Cobra 2826/760 or a Bad Ass 2826/690.

5 or 6 cell battery?  If 6 cell, the specks on the Bad Ass looks like a good match.   The power speck on the Scorpion is 1000w. The power speck on the Bad Ass is 1150w.  Scorpion KV is 710 and the Bad Ass is 690.  Assume 6 cell = 22.2 volts the Scorpion max RPMs would be 15762 RPM.  Bad Ass would be 15318 RPM.  If you are going to set RPMs between 9000 and 10000 RPM you would have plenty of head room for good regulation with either motor.  Haven't  run either of these motors so this is my best guess looking at the specks.  Should be able to swing a 12x6 (may need to cut down a little) and for sure should be able to swing a 11x5.5.

The Cobra looks to be less of a match. With a 760 KV  its max RPM would be 16872 RPM.  I think the Cobra would be more comfortable at 5 cells.

If you haven't purchased anything yet I would use the Bad Ass.If you already have the Scorpion use it. If you have both use the Bad Ass.The Bad Ass has better bearings, the rest is too close to call, so that's the deal breaker for me. I am running that exact Bad Ass In my son's Genesis Extreme with a Cox/Ressinger 3 blade 11x5.5 without issues so I know it will swing most props up to that size without issue. The Bad Ass also cost less.   This is only if you plan on using a 6 cell cell set up. Like John says things will be different if you plan on a 5 cell set up?

There's a Badass 2826 motor with a kv of 820 RPM/volt.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Unless I am wrong the Cobra 2826x motors top out at 5 cell.  I would concur if you were talking about the 3520.  Mine did not show the performance increase I expected going from 5 to 6 cells.  I chose to keep it at 5 cells.
