motor starts spinning again after landing
« on: December 01, 2013, 03:25:00 PM »
Don't know where to start looking for problem, went out  to fly small foam plane today. We have flown this plane before with no problems, flew for about two minutes then motor just stopped. No warning. landed and before my daughter got to it motor started spinning again. Has a ztron simple timer. Any Ideas?

dead from overheating or low battery and restarted ... that is my guess ... depends on ESC or timer firmware

Does the timer have a capacitor on the board attached to the power supply inputs to the processor?

Edit: I fouind a picture on the World Wide Web.  Looks like it does.  Never mind.

Howard, if you mean my timer, yes I have blocking capacitor, and I cannot speak for others making timers, but I think every one who realize that the electronic is on so long cable uses blocking capacitiors, but it will not prevent such problem, all depends on ESC (both firmware and hardware) what it does in such case.

John,
I fly the Ztron timers and have not had any trouble except for plugging in the connector one pin over and toasting one. I run CC35 and 45 ESC's set for fixed rpm governor mode. This system is pretty simple to set up and comes on once plugged in. I use a toggle switch between the battery and ESC to act as a power switch and safety breaker.

It sounds like you may have either an intermittent bad cell or lose - weak wire joint that is allowing the timer to reset and restart. I would check all your wires and connector joints to make sure you don't have a cold joint or lose one. Also would be a good idea to move the dip switches on/off a couple times to make sure they are making good contact.

Best,         DennisT
