Super Firecat!
« on: June 13, 2015, 07:41:42 AM »
Brodak is bringing out a new kit of the AJ Super Firecat.  I was able to get my hands on a pre-production short-kit so I could design an electric conversion for it.  Electronista’s should be able to get both a first run of the Super Firecat kit and the Electric Conversion Kit (#BH-1936) at same time.

This conversion dispenses with the X-mount and mounts the motor directly to the firewall, accessing mounting bolts through the battery box.  Per my usual practice, the 5-sided box is open to the inboard side for battery change-out, the retaining strap is under almost no stress...

My memory of the Firecats my dad built are that it was a better flyer than the Ringmasters, and certainly prettier to look at!  Test flights early next week in Carmichaels…

I had bought 2 of them from TCI back when I first came back to C/L. One Fox 35 and the other OS 25 FP powered. Both were fun ad I finally passed them on to newer flyers.
I also thought that they were a nice alternative to the Ringmaster but by the time that it was introduced originally the Ringmaster had a lock on the sports most favorite profile.
Still I am glad to see it being re introduced  to the modeling public.

The Ringmaster was also a whole dollar cheaper.  I too bought two kits from TCI.  One has been flown at VSC and the kit went to someone who wanted it.

John,

You have to remember that the Jim Walker offering was a whole lot more aircraft than the Ringmaster. It had prefabrication, good wood. Real accessories including wheels. matched wing and stab platforms, and it did fly well. Add to that the pieces fit and the parts were clean.
I don't think that anyone is going to set up a website dedicated to the Super Firecat though.
But I believe that Randy Smith offered plans for the model and probably still does.
