Super Clown conversion
« on: May 23, 2025, 07:26:17 AM »
I'm looking for thoughts/input on a conversion from IC to electric of a Brodak Super Clown ARF.

If I cut out just one of the engine bearers it makes enough room in the nose for the motor. That way I don't have to cut through both bearers. Of course this moves the motor thrust line either up or down from where the IC motor thrust line was.

Question #1 - Would it be better to not change the thrust line?

Question #2 - If I take the easier path of just removing one of the engine bearers, would it be better to remove the top or the bottom one?

Thanks

If possible fit the motor in-between the existing mounts. On my Ringmaster I cut them both equally to fit the Bas Ass 2314 front mount. I use a plywood mount plate with "L" bass clips to bolt the mount plate to the front part of the wood motor mount. I use three clips one on each wood mount and a third to the center base into the outer plywood double.

For battery packet check out the HobbyStar line offered from RC Juice (https://rcjuice.com/collections/softcase-batteries). They make a short 4S _ 1800mah pack that is ~2 3/4" long and fits right were the fuel tank would go, no need to cut the wing leading edge. You need to check the connectors. You can either change the ones on the pack to Deans or they have coverer clips that allow Deans type connection.
