Guys
I just completed Sultan-e #2.
Weight is 48.5 oz without battery this is .1 oz less than the prototype. Wing span is 60.5", Area 686 in sq. same wing thickness 14.4 % (with flaps). With statics (CG; Lead outs) set to the same positions as the prototype; it flies remarkably like the prototype. Of course it still needs fine tuning.
One of the noticeable differences is that this airplane howls like a siren. The howling got so bad Gordan Delaney thought it was a bearing going bad. Guess I will need to re-duct some air as I believe the volume of air being forced through the motor is acting like a siren. The motor is cold upon landing. (See picture 5). You can over engineer things!
Motor is an AXI 2826/12; ESC is a Castle ICE Lite; Hubin FM-9 Timer system set to 9634 RPM for an APC 13X4.5 pusher prop; 5S2600 ThunderPower batteries. Virtually all the same settings as delineated in the "Cookbook" see sticky in this Forum.

Okay, I am curious as can be! Please keepo us informed as to what changes the siren-call and how the motor temps change.

Hi Norm, congrats on your new one. The behind the spinner picture reminds me very much of the front of a siren from a London blitz movie I saw years ago.
You may need to adjust the number and sizes of those openings. I know you've likely already figured out the solution, but couldn't resist adding my comments.
OTOH, If you can modulate the sound with different sized openings, you might be able to fool those who are not yet ready for the silence of electrics in the stunt circle.... :##

I think what is happening is the air is being vented through the bottom (picture 005) hole directly into the rotating magnets on the case and they are spinning – just like the WW2 air raid siren. Wish I would have foreseen that. Also notice that the biggest volume of air is going thru the bottom hole because of the elliptical spinner opening (picture 008) and the angled ducting of the bottom hole. As soon as I landed after the first complete flight Jimmy touched the motor and declared it cold. I think my first experiment will be to close half of the bottom hole on the motor side; this should interrupt the flow directly into the motor. Of course I will check the temperature.

I'd keep the noise. It would deter birds and personnel from entering the circle.

That is a good thought. Last year I was flying Sultan –e #1 and a hawk came within feet of taking the airplane out on the vertical eight. And of course car makers are adding noise to cars to make pedestrians aware of the cars.

Another wonderful bird, Norm! I will be anxious to see how you deal with the noices too. I have also been trying to "choke" air through the motor, but I allow some bypass air too, trying to get the outside of the can. Have not had any issues with motor heat - yet!

I flew it today and it has some real possibility. It may even fly better than the prototype. I have another one, Sultan-e #3, ready to test in a couple of weeks.

I was there when Norm flew the new Sultan-E and I think it is better than the First one. Not only does it look good,but Norm flies it really well.

Finally took pictures of all 3 Sultan-e's.All have the AXI 2826-12, ICE Lite 50 ESC's, ThunderPower 5S batteries and Will Hubin FM-9 timers. All three airplanes are within .1 oz of each other.
