Hey guys,
I have a stretched original tutor that is using a silver LA.25 with a 9-4 @ 1100rpm, the lap times are 5.0 - 5.2sec.
I want to convert this plane to electric and I am thinking of using the E-Flight 10 with the recommended 10-5 prop.
I live at high altitudes and occasionally compete at sea level.
Can I get away with the E-Flight 10 or should I go to the E-Flight 15?
I am currently cutting my teeth with an E-Flight streak using a generic Turobjet (N3536-B) 1100KV 655Watt motor (60A esc) with a 9-6 standard APC prop.
So far my 1min tests have been promising but I want to use good stuff on my Tutor.
The generic tests I am doing is to see if the really cheap stuff works and for how long. Hopefully I will get some more and longer flights in this weekend.
But, can I get away with the E-Flight 10?

Maybe. What battery are you thinking of as the power 10 isn't really a 3 cell or a 4 cell motor but kind of falls in between both but mat be able to be propped to work? Do you have a projected finished weight? If you are going to be much over 40 oz then don't. This is the motor my son flew in his 41 oz UHP Gieskie Nobler at the Nats.

My plane currently is 42oz with motor and empty tank. I was thinking of using a 3s battery to keep costs down. Later once I have made the complete switch to electric I will start using different equipment as funds, equipment, and budget change.
Other planes I am looking to build/convert is the Primary Force and the ARF Nobler.

Hi Warren,
You will find the cost of the batteries very similar (larger 3c vs smaller 4 cell)=approx. same eight and cost. Pick a set up and go with it. I bet a 4s 2500mah battery will be pretty much a match for the 3 planes you mentioned. That Cobra motor may fly them all providing that weight is kept down otherwise a power 15 for sure.

I asked Will what set up would work on Flite Streak and he recommended 4 cell 2500 mah and it is right on the money. I had to slow it down a bit with the FM9 timer but it right on the money.

after doing some more MATH........ (who knew grade school would ever come in handy) I got the E-Flight 15. Now I need the ESC and 4S battery's. I was thinking of trying the Viper air series ESC, good bang for the buck and very well made.

Plan long term. ESC's don't wear out. Get the one that will serve you into the future

They don't wear out but they do occasionally pop if you have a prop strike, or stall the motor in some other exciting fashion.
Killing a speedy that way is one thing, but losing a model becuse the speedy farted out in an overhead eight is just painful.
