AXI motor - esc blown
« on: February 08, 2010, 03:31:17 PM »
Got my motor out and took it apart.  This was suppose to be a new motor but looking at the magnets in the bell,
it looks like someone JB Welded all the magnets in and was sloppy.
My other AXI 2826/10 does not look like this, but is older.
Does look like anyone's elses AXI?
See pics.

From that second photo, it looks like the magnets in the back are being rubbed.

It is possible the magnets were reglued back in--but I'm not sure. But I think you said you have used this motor before without burning up an ESC, so my guess, is the current problems are related to the last couple of incidents.

One thing is that an 2826 is a long motor (26mm), and may be more sensitive to bumps than a shorter motor (like my 3020--only 20mm long).

Alan,

What you see in the bottom of the bell is JB Weld on the surface of the magnets.  Like I said,
it's sloppy.

Well if nothings rubbing, and if the magnets were put back in correctly (e.g. N-S-N-S-....), then a little sloppiness won't hurt (it may make it slightly out of balance).

So I'd suggest a quick kV run, if you can do it. Use the lowest cell count pack you have (like a 2s if you have one, since there is no reason to go too high of an rpm). If the measured kV is close to the original specs, and if the no-load current draw is ~1-2A (I'd look at the specs too), then it is hard to see what is wrong.
