another dumb question can you hook two motors to one speed controller?

Brushless motors? In a word ... NO. n1
Yes, someone will tell you about this guy who has done it, but the motor start and restart will be unreliable and the ESC can be destryed in startup gone awry.
Brushed motors can be ganged onto the same controller with no problem whatsoever.

thank you, that answered that. so now what is the best way to keep two motors sinked? can they both run off one JMP timer?

Yes you can use a single timer. Walt brownell uses one timer in his electric twin with good results.
