Title: Source of LiPo batteries?
Post by: John Rist on May 21, 2017, 10:48:38 PM
I am sure this isn't the first time this question has been asked.  What are the sources for LiPo batteries?  Of course there is Hobbyking.  What are others?  Also what brand of batteries are recommended for our use?

Thunder Power.  2800 25C cells are the ones a lot of the top guys use, pretty much the lightest out there.

Best time to "stock up" is during their sales, 40%-50% off. You can sign up for email notifications.
(Could be one coming next weekend for Memorial day, last year it was 40% off)

Pat,  Thanks for the response.  This is what I was looking for.  4S 2800 is what I need.   I did sign up for sale notification.  If they do 40% off I will definitely stock up.  #^  #^   #^

Lipo battery cells, like many of the items we use in C/L, are for the most part manufactured in China. Like many Chinese products there are good ones and bad ones.

It is interesting to note that Thunder Power batteries, which are regarded by many of us as the best, are assembled in Nevada after the company purchases the cells from a manufacturer in China.

RSM Distribution purchases the batteries it sells directly from a manufacturer in China that offers top quality lipo cells. Unlike Thunder Power we do not assemble the batteries here in the USA. Instead we have the cell manufacturer assemble the batteries in China, solder on the Deans connector and balance plugs and then ship the completed battery to the USA. Since we deal directly with the manufacturer we can offer our lipo batteries for a very competitive price. An example of this price advantage is a 3300 4 cell RSM battery (30C) at $59.99 vs a 3400 4 cell (25C) from Thunder Power at $69.99. That is 15% less money for a better battery with a higher discharge rate. The higher the "C" rating the more expensive the battery is. Unlike many of the lipo batteries available you never have to solder your own Deans connectors when you purchase a lipo from RSM.

Dear all

You are very happy.

Here in Brazil is impossible to find thunder power battery´s for a normal price .
We pay 100% in tax ,is normal we find a TP for 180 or 200 US Dollars  5S 2700 mha

I normally use Zippy Compact battery´s from hobbyking . But I need to use European Warehouse , if I choose International , came to Brazil using Fedex , the shipping and tax is proibitive .
Using normal air mail takes 40 days but the cost is much better

thank you

Just received my Thunder Power PROLITEX  2800 batteries.  They are amazing - especially  regarding size and weight.  Up to now I have been using Turnigy 3000 batteries.  The PROLITEX weigh 3.89 oz less and are about an inch shorter.  Of course they have less capacity which accounts for some of the weight loss but a little math reviles that the Turnigy batteries weigh 4.15 OZ per 1000 mah  and the PROLITEX weigh 3.06 oz per 1000 mah.  I haven't used the PROLITEX yet but I am sure they will preform well.  As they say you get what you pay for.  The Turnigy's cost a lot less.

More comparisons here

http://stunthanger.com/smf/gettin-all-amp'ed-up!/calculated-or-stated-battery-capacity/

In comparing weight of Zippy 6s versus TP 6s the weight is close. I have 3 old Zippy batteries 25C and 2700s and a TP 2700 and the newer 2800's.  All have a small piece of Velcro and Deans ends and similar length wires.  Zippy 6s is about 370 grams and my TPs about 368 grams.  One TP is only 362.8 and I'm not sure why.

There were older Zippy packs that were about 1+ ounces heavier for 5 cells than with the cells that I currently have, and weighed about like the 35C Zippy packs.  My old 5s Zippy packs were about 320 grams compared to 354 grams for the heavier 5s packs described.

The TP's are shorter and better configured for balance possibilities if the Zippy packs are too long.
