Small electric Spitfire stunter
« on: May 06, 2013, 10:45:34 AM »
This is the third small electric stunter I have built. Its layout comes from Noel Stephenson's 1,5 cc balsa construction Spitfire published in Aeromodeller March 1987. My version is built of depron. The nose section is strengthened with light kevlar cloth laminated inside with epoxy resin. The Spit has a span of 820 mm and it weighs 250 grams. The motor is a 100 W 30 gram 1450 kv cheapo sold by the Austrian Lindinger as Joker 2822-24. The ESC is a Hobbyking SS 20 A and the motor is controlled with a HobbyKing HK-210 car radio, which is really convenient indeed. The prop is HK 7x5R with clockwise rotation. I have used 400 and 550 MAh Dualsky 3-cell batteries. I fly the Spit with 10 metre .008 braided wire lines. The plane flew surprisingly well right from the start, by coincidence, I suppose. I does the FAI schedule with ease, much better that my .15 IC powered 450 gram stunters.
