Sig Banshee Electric set up question
« on: January 10, 2021, 05:58:13 AM »
Hi All, I have searched Stunthanger and read loads on the banshee and I just wanted to check I was on the right lines with the electric set up as I know things have been moving on at a rapid pace regarding electric motors etc.

I was thinking of an Emax (Arrowind?) 2820/07 919kv with 40amp esc, 4s 2200 lipo ( just because I have several?
 11x5/ 11x5.5 APC prop

I am just going to be learning basic stunts so do not need to fly a whole schedule.
The Emax is available and I have an Emax 2815/07 that I like and so thought I may try another.

Am I on the right lines or is there a better option?
Thanks all.

George,
Your system selections should work fine on the Banshee. Since you are using a 2200mah pack depending on your flight time you might consider clipping the prop diameter to 10.5" ish. with the 5.5 pitch, set the rpm around 10K, would give you around a 4.9 sec lap time on 60' center to center lines. I have a Still Stuka and this is the set up I use with a 5 min, 20 sec set time. You could go to the APC web site (https://www.apcprop.com/) and in the multi rotor section they have 10.5 props both tracker and pusher. I like the pusher as it give a little extra security on outside.

Thanks, Dennis. Sounds good and that is a useful link to the APC site.

George,
I have an electric Sig Banshee that is currently fitted with a Turnigy 3542 1000kV motor, 11x5.5EP APC prop, CC Phoenix Edge Light 50 and using 4 cell 2600-3000mAh batteries.  I have also used an Arrowind 2815 motor with the same prop and batteries as well as a KR-2 timer and 60A HobbyKing red brick ESC.  These all seem to be able to fly for 5:30 when needed although I normally fly for 4:00 with only one lap between maneuvers for the full pattern and this generally leaves the batteries near or above the storage charge.  Data logging shows that I am pulling around 32A maximum with the Turnigy and 37A maximum with the 2815.

I also use an Arrowind 2815 (920kV) with the 11x5.5EP APC prop in a profile Oriental with 2800mAh batteries in competition running for 5:30.  Normally I need to push a little juice back in the battery after these runs (~200mAh to get the cells to 3.8V) and they are right at storage after full patterns run with 1 lap between maneuvers.  This combination pulls 41A maximum in this configuration.

For reference, the Banshee is a decent flyer.  A friend from Korea used it in 2015 to place in intermediate N30 at Brodak's.  Not too bad considering he had not flown it prior to flying over for the event.

I hope you find some of this information helpful.

George:

The Sig Twister is almost the same plane as the Banshee and I flew mine for two years on a Cobra 2820/12 which is very close to what you have.  I used 4s 2200mAh batteries and an 11-5.5 pusher.  Loved it.

The specs look fantastic for a 35 sized plane on 4s. Thank you.
