Title: Should I hide my Lipos?

We haven't had our homeowners insurance updated in a while and would like to, so question, if our insurance rep wants to see our house should I hide my Lipos?

I doubt they will know or care. When I updated mine they were more focused on where my fire extinqusers were placed. Most likely most of us would have a kitchen fire before we ever had a lipo fire.My whole charging station was out in the open, they never even asked what it was. Your experiance could be different of course.

They should be hidden anyway, inside an ammo can or other such container.

jim....sorry but if you are referring to the typical army green hermetically closed ammo can absolutely NOT a place for a battery storage........I will let others explain why

??? Ammo box (or any other quality metal box with a lid) closed with a couple of holes drilled in the top for ventilation  is the only way to go, just be sure to drill holes in it.  ;D

Lipo's aren't the problem.  (Although, they may wonder why are all the ammo boxes in the house).  Hide your airplanes!  Read any new policy very carefully before signing anything.  Some HO policies now exclude all "aircraft" without exception.  No exclusion for hobby or model aircraft.  Don't trust the rep to give a reliable answer, they just want the commission.

I think he means ammo boxes can be air tight when closed, when a lipo goes off it gives off gasses, when more than one goes off in a sealed ammo box you can have quite the explosive device, simply fixed by drilling a few holes in the lid.

a typical Army ammo can is well sealed and heavy gauge steel.  A puffy, on edge of thermal runaway, Lipo has the potential to out gas a LOT.....what might be just a thermal event now is a very potent EXPLOSIVE EVENT

If you like metal containers for batteries....vent them
