Setting up a Talon 35 and FM-9 Timer
« on: September 18, 2025, 08:38:23 PM »
I have been reading posts on SH on how to program the Talon 35 esc and a FM-9 Timer to work together.
It's unclear to me what the Throttle settings should be in the Talon and what the proper programming settings are in the FM-9 Timer.

Could someone please share how it's done to achieve a governed rpm?

Thanks
  John

Others will be more help I hope as I've never worked with a Talon. Scrolling through my FM9 I didn't see a choice for the Talon so it might not work too good. Maybe just try the Phoenix new high and see what it does? You might need the KR timer for the Talon. For the throttle, if there's a choice for control line, choose that and go for the highest governor/throttle settings as the rpm will be controlled by the timer.

Thanks for your reply Motorman.
My FM 9 programmer does have an esc mode option "Talon High RPM".

My FM9 timers are older units. Glad yours has the right setting.

Thanks for that link Paul. It's great information. I have a Phoenix that I am learning to use.
However the Talon esc seems to work differently.

Hi John, Your Hubin programmer box has the updated chip for working with the Talon ESC.

I have attached a few screenshots from the CastleLink from the last time I used a Talon 35 ESC / FM9.
Looks like I was using a 4s battery with a 980kv motor for this particular setup.

Thanks Brent! I think this is exactly what I am looking for. I was trying to set the Talon on "set RPM" and looking for the 3 rpm options in the FM - 9 programmer as I do with the Phoenix esc.
Your Talon setting was "Governor High" and I'm guessing that you just enter the rpm desired in the FM 9.

Correct.  You program the FM-9 timer to the desired flight duration and RPM with the Hubin FM-9 Programmer Box.
