Title: Rimfire = Scorpion = AXI
Post by: Leester on August 01, 2009, 12:09:06 PM
Can someone tell me what Scorpion and AXI motors would be a good replacement for the Rimfire 42-50-800 in size and performance. TIA

This will be a reply in parts, basically starting from a TLAR perspective.

From the specs, it weighs about 7oz, so my guess is you are talking about a Scorpion 3026 or AXI 2826 which weigh in about that ballpark. I say this because the motor's "grunt" comes from iron and copper, which dominate the weight. All the fancy aluminum stuff is kind of in the noise. So that's my first guess.

Here's my second shot. I went to the web site, and picked up a photo (same as you have given). I tried to measure the length of the flat region of the outer can---this is where the magnets fit. I get about 1" (since the motor is 2"long and nominally it looks like a actual size drawing on my screen. 1" is 25.4mm, so I can believe the magnets are in the 26mm range (which is where the "26" in the AXI and Scorpion designations come from. The magnet length is also the nominal iron stator length, so so far.

Since the kV here is 800 rpm/Volt, I'd pick out the closest version in the AXI 2826 or Scorpion 3026 line.

And that's how I try to mix and match motors.

Check that the 2826 AXI and 3026 Scorpion wattage/amperage specs are ballpark. However also remember that AXI tends to be pretty conservative with its max power ratings, and Rimfire more on the liberal side. I use Scorpions and have no reasons to believe their specs are far off.

Thanks Alan, looks like the Scorpion 3026-890 is about the closest. I couldn't find any AXI 2826's at least on Tower or Chief to do any comparisons.

Did you check Hobby-Lobby?
http://www.hobby-lobby.com/brushless-axi2826.htm

For some reason I can't find the "simple stuff" specs on Hobby-Lobby.

Here is a link to the specs of the 2826-12 (kV-760 rpm/volt).

and here are the specs to the 2826-10 kV=920 rpm/volt

Thanks again Alan, I forgot about Hobby Lobby. I also forgot about AXI's prices, The Scorpion looks real good from that point.

Also, I can say that Scorpion will stand behind their motors. They sent me replacement prop adapter from China Registered Air Mail at no charge!!

My 2 cents.

I have the 3026-890 V2 in my SV-11. All I can say is that it really works well for me.
