motor recommendations

So, I'm thinking of building a 600 or so square inch Super70s plane and using electric for power. Recommendations on motor and battery?

Randy

Another choice would be the Cobra 2826/10 and the same 4 cell 3000 mah battery Bob mentioned above.  Or if your preference is for 5 Cell, than use the Cobra 2826/12 and perhaps a 2700 mah battery.  I have been running the Cobra 2826/10 with very good results on a 625 sq. in. airplane for the past two flying seasons. Can't imagine how you would be disappointed with any of the mentioned motors so far.  :)

I've got a couple of E-Flight 32s but I thought it would be a bit much so I was looking for recommedations.

Thanks, guys.

Hacker A30-10XL or Black Tiger 3542C. Both use a 4 cell 3300 battery. Both develop approximately 700 watts of power which is good for models weighing up to 64 oz.

Sorry I gave you the wrong number for the Black Tiger motor. The correct number is BK3548C

It's not like engines.  If the E-Flite 32 isn't too heavy, it will work just fine.  The only reason to use a different motor would be to avoid tail ballast.

Hmm, maybe I'll stick with a slimer for this. Have to cogitate on it.

LA 46 or an ST 51.  But really, what Howard said applies -- the eFlight 32 be a hair more lossy with no prop, and may (or may not) be a hair less lossy at full power output, so the total system power will be about the same.  Unless you're frying the motor or putting a ton of ballast in the tail, you're probably OK.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Some good info on that size plane here

http://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php/topic,28728.0.html

Cobra makes a nice 3 bearing motor, I believe mentioned, Cobra 2826/12 760Kv.

Randy,
What ever super 70 ship you decide on make sure the nose will accommodate the diameter of the electric motor you choose. Alot of the jet styles had long narrow fuselages.

Randy,
the Hacker ( lke I used in the Electrajet) is more compact than the eflight 32 and is capable of 700 watts,, its also available in different windings for using 4 cell or 5 cell setups,, they are not physically as robust as the eflights,, the case is lighter,, but I had good luck with it on the Ejet and in RC applications as well,, not only that,, its an awesome purple color,,
For years the rat race had me going around in circles, Now I do it for fun!

I certainly agree with what Mark said. In addition the Hacker has far better bearings than the E Flight!

The E-Flight 32 is just a terrific motor. "Big Block" power. Many flights in my SV-11  using a 5 cell pack . I also use one in my mini- R/C pattern bird( Monolog) on a 4 cell pack where it is equally impressive. That ship/ motor combo good for Master's  level performance; albeit not as a precise as a 2 meter. I use the "old CC" Phoenix 45 ESC in both.

Longevity plus Horizon Hobby has very good warranty service; should you need it. (I haven't as of yet with the E-32).

Other recommendations here will be fine.

I would like to endorse what Eric Rule said about his Black Tiger 3548C motor. It has very good bearings and magnets in it and is well made. What is also good is the weight of 160 grams (5.6 oz.). I got one to try in my Newtron before I went to Poland, but the model weighed 64 oz. so the motor was a tad too small and although it ran really well, it ran too hot. So for the model that Randy has in mind, this is an ideal motor, and of course you can keep in mind that the back-up service from RSM is top-class as well. For the .46 powered Classic models, I believe that this is exactly the right motor.

I have more time to play now, so I'm busy right now with trying to find the ideal .15 size motor. I have one of the BT3530C motors which looks like it will really fit the bill on a 3-cell pack. It has a 1400 Kv and weighs 75 grams so it sounds like the real deal. I'll post more once I have it flying.
