Rear bearing support..
« on: September 27, 2012, 11:53:50 AM »
On a front mount set up..  Just wondering what is the right outboard bearing to use for the E-flite 32 rear support, and where to get the rest of the hardware?

Thanks in advance

Hi Joe:

We have found that you really don't need the rear support bearing when front mounting. We have logged several hundred flights with an unsupported, front mounted motor and have experienced no problems.

Joe,

I agree with Bob,I  have been running two 32's with no rear supported bearing. They do just fine. In all frankness, the bearings are inexpensive, so even if there was a wear issue, I would just replace them once a season and save the added weight.

Tim,
May experience has been similar to Bob's. The key seems to be having a solid mount wall to bolt the motor to. If you use 1/8" lite ply you can get movement of the motor. I use 3/16" aircraft plywood and use small screws through the doubler into the mount wall which is epoxied in place with 1/4" gussets to add strength.  Make sure you use at least 1/32" plywood doublers. Another option is to get the front mount crutch from Tom Morris, it is very solid and would mount to doublers similar to conventional mounts but they are trimmed out for lightness.

Thanks Bob, Tim, Dennis,  That's assuring.  I guess I don't need to get into any further then.    I saw it in this post http://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php?topic=28531.0   and looks to be a good idea.  :)
