Title: Props
Post by: Steve H on May 21, 2014, 03:55:58 PM
If a person has a motor, uses 3s battery's and with a 5x? prop it produces thrust = A and speed = B and with the same motor uses 2s battery and a 7x? prop it produces thrust = A and speed = B where A and B are the same for both props.
With thrust and speed being the right amounts for a given plane to be flown for non-competition fun and stunt is there any benefit to using one setup over the other. Weight remains essentially the same and flight time remains the same for either setup.
Thanks.

I assume you are posting a theoritical question! Since you say you are using the same motor, the battery that best matches the KV of that motor will give you the best efficiency.

Yes, exactly, The question being more about the prop size than the motor battery combo.
I know for a given plane, there is a size prop that matches and most seem to work from the prop back in calculating the motor and battery combo.
Many different props will give thrust = A and Speed = B but are there any flight related  benefits leaning toward the larger size or smaller size.
If so, What would they be for each side of the coin.
Thanks.
