New  question  Just got back from flying and the first flight was great, then it happen on the second flight, on take off I got this loud growl then after 4-5 laps it went away, on the next flight I change the prop, thinking it was the prop. but it did the same thing and also shut off and on in load,was ok in level flight, but it would be intermittent up high, it is a E-Flight 25 motor, Hubin timer, Ice 50 ESC APC 13x4.5 EP ..   Can it be bearings?   HB~>

Check the bearings for smoothness (by gently rotating the prop and feeling for gravel).

Check the bearings for end play and tightness by wiggling things around.

While you're at it, check that the motor is solidly mounted.

Beyond that -- I dunno.

Wow.  Wowwow.

So -- I wonder if that was cause or effect?  It sure looks like the edges of the hole are kinda sharp-sided, and rubbing plus sharp sides could have taken out the red wire.  But the damage to the black wire looks like there was some pulling involved, too.  If it was loose and flopping around that would have caused growl and wire damage both.  OHOH, if the wires were damaged for some other reason, it may have caused the growl.

It's repairable, if you're handy with taking motors apart and soldering wires.

I know nothing about E-Flight motors but it appears that you are missing a retainer clip or collar on the shaft.

AH HA  I see now that that is the collar and not a loose bearing!!

Under inspection the collar is in place but the other end the shaft set screw was loose and the can was moving. I hope it all it was , replace with another motor and will test fly to see what happens..

Larry,

Years ago I was advised to always check the set screws on a new motor before putting it into use (I confess that I have not always done so) and it appears as if that was good advice.  y1

For the record, I have never found the set screws loose on a new motor so far.  ;D

Larry.

Please keep us posted on the outcome of this issue ( yes, I have a Eflite 25).  I have seen wire rubbing issues before, in just that area.  Normally I take a new motor and put silicone in and around the wires and that opening.   Good maintenance is priceless.

I got back from testing another motor( E-Flight 25 ) and the plane is like it was , Nice I notice that the collar set screw had a flat spot on the shaft,made sure it set tight,and the front has 2 set screws also check them, now I'm a happy camper....seams that sometimes the motor finds a point in flight and stays , until the next time ..

I got the growl out .  It seems that it was all of the above that cause it first the loose set screws cause the can to move back and forth fraying the wire, then this also cause a vibration that made a growl and smooth out , the vibration, in a effort to make sure the motor was tight it crush the fire wall, because it was a carbon fiber laminate of carbon balsa carbon ply,  I replace the fire wall mount with a carbon fiber mount which now it's solid and all is great, so far I have 10 flight on it and all is well. y1 HB~>

Oh Gee, sorry Larry. My puppy let Murphy out of my garage! I try to keep Murphy locked up in my garage so he doesn't affect other peoples stuff. Its why it takes me so long to do anything, the guy never lets me do anything right first 7 times. But this puppy just wants someone to play with and gets carried away on occasion. My apologies.
