Problems with Castle Link
« on: May 29, 2009, 01:45:09 PM »
Hi all!

I have a problem with Castle Link and I would like to hear if someone else have the same problem OR a solution to it.
The problem is:
I have setup the ESC to use set-rpm and when I choose "no gearing / direct drive" in the gearing/kv/poles window I get a error message saying "Input string was not in a correct format" and a lot of other .NET related information. If I set the gearing (to 1:1) with one of the other two options it works fine. If I click cancel in the error message window the program closes. If I click resume the program continues to run but the setting above is not stored in the ESC. In all other ways the program works.

I have tested this on 6 different computers with either XP, Vista or Windows 7 and I get the same error on all of them. English or Swedish operating system doesnt matter.

I have version 3.13 of Castle link and the latest firmware in the ESC.

Hmmm, as I recall the only thing you can write-in on that screen is the motor kV, everything else is a drop-down menu selection...

* I set-up on a VISTA laptop.  I downloaded the software, then "ran as administrator" to insall it.  That was the only way I could get a clean installation.

* You might try dropping back on the Firmware selection from version 2.11 to the prior issue - I think it was version 2.0

* On the FIRST screen you might try the "Upload Default Settings" (lower RH side of screen) to get everything settled in, THEN start programming to suit...

Andreas,

As far as I recall I just used 1:1 and the ESC works fine in the Control Line set RPM mode. I'll check later to see for certain if that what I actually did and let you know if it is not.

Yep, I checked and I have the motor ratio set to 1.000. I have not used the "no gearing/direct drive setting." Humm, wonder if there is a bug in the new software in that regard. I don't remember if there even was an option for "no gearing/direct drive" in the old software. I loaded new firmware as well as software. Wonder if that could also play a role?

Ah well, this setting works for me so I'll stick with it for now.

John, yes it seems to work in the 1:1 setting so I leave it there. However, I´m still curious if this has happened to anyone else.
