SIG Akromaster kit bash
« on: March 22, 2018, 02:02:20 AM »
I have most of a SIG Akromaster kit left over, and I have an idea for an electric trainer I want to do.  I’m just trying to decide which power system to use.  Brodak has two power systems that I could go with, but I can’t decide which to use.  The website shows an EPS-15 and an EPS-18.  Both use the same 18 amp esc, FM-0c timer, 3S 1800MaH battery, and 8x4E prop.  Only difference is the motor.  The EPS-15 uses the Arrowind 2210-25 at 1560KVA, and the EPS-18 uses a Black Magic 2215 at 1180KVA.  Also, an 18A esc seems a little small.

Opinions?

Hello Mark I would be going for the EPS18 but with a 30amp ESC.
Have a similar sized model (Aeromodeller Mirabilis) that is only slightly larger, that is 22.5oz ready to fly with a Apache APM30-18T 905Kv and uses a 3S 1600Mah 3cell and ground scraping 11x7 prop which flies out the F2B pattern nicely and with a few laps to spare.
Regards Gerald

Well, cleaning up my work table showed that I already have the specified speed controller, timer, and three props for the above systems.  Since I have the other stuff, I went ahead and bought the motor and two batteries for the EPS-15 Sport package from Brodak.  I have most of an Akromaster wing kit, some rock hard elevator and stab pieces, and a heavy plank of a fuselage, so I made up a working drawing for a full fuse plane.

The fuselage was drawn to the width of the BH-1877 battery and BH-1836 motor.  The medium 1/16” balsa sided fuse will be built around a 3/16” balsa crutch with 3/16” cross pieces and 1/16” sheeting top and bottom.

I cut a new stab and elevators from decent wood, and mildly re-profiled the fin and rudder.

I bought some more 1/16” sheet and a roll of yellow covering this afternoon to continue the build when I get some time.
