Plettenburg advantages vs other good choices.

Since the other thread veered off topic a bit, perhaps Paul, Howard, Chris, Alan, Jimby, ect., give the class a lesson on the advantages or pros/cons of using Plettenburg vs Cobra/E-flite/ect.   
Plett's sure are pricey vs the competing motors, so it would be interesting to hear the reasons and observations surrounding the what, how and why that makes them a superior choice. 

ie, Bearing life, smoothness, acceleration/deceleration response time, resonant freq. related problems, mounting preference, weight, torque, ect, ect.

Yes, the bearings are superior. They have 3 sets, two much like others and a third larger ring at the mounting end. These motors stand up to being rear mounted. I see many others front mount them, but are forced to because of the quality of motor being  used.

smoothnes,

These motors are as smooth as I have used. Probably due the the bearing arrangement, any their can balancing.

 acceleration/deceleration response time,

I have no quantitative data to answer this.  If they were too slow, I wouldn't be using them.


resonant freq.

I have had no issues with these motors using 3 blade props. Other motors I have used resonate between 11 and 12 k rpm. These do not.


related problems,

What related problems are you thinking about?

mounting preference,

I prefer rear mounting

 weight,

The motor I use to pull my Predators and Impact 2019 weights 181 grams.

 torque,

The 181 gram motor will easily pull the Igor 12" underchambered prop without overheating, and still responds quickly.

 ect, ect.

They look to be better built.

What Paul said.   Alan and I have changed many bearings on eFlite‘s, Cobra’s, Axi’s, etc., even with as little as 100 flights.  I have yet to change a single bearing in the Plett’s.   The Plett’s do cost more, but if I started off with the Plett’s rather than the stable of other motors I have used over the years, I’d be way ahead financially.


Not to mention Plettenberg were very generous and sent Alan and I a couple of very spiffs Plettenberg Golf Shirts!   ;D

I got Plettenberg 20-16s because they'd worked so well for Paul.  He and Chris and Alan switched to the lighter 15-22.  I didn't follow on my old airplanes because I had ballast in the nose anyhow.  I got some 15-22s for the new dog.  No Plettenberg shirt; I wear the uniform of the Jive Combat Team.

It says the Orbit 15-22 uses a 5s battery but aren't you guys using 6s? Is that just a difference in current?

Yes, 6S no issue with those as long as the KV, prop rpm  and ESC size are matched properly.
