Title: Plettenberg Orbit 15-24
Post by: BYU on November 05, 2017, 12:54:33 PM
I have done my best with search but come up blank so excuse the question (again) if it has already been covered.

I am looking at Pletts and wondered if anyone has used the Plettenberg Orbit 15-24?

Q? Will it work for our purposes and what weight size of plane would it work with?

Thanks for any constructive answers

I am using the 15-20 on 5S in a Vector 40, Igor's 11x5 prop and governor mode (no boost).
Pretty sure Paul Walker runs the 15-22 on 6S with Igor's active timer.

15-24 Kv might be a bit too low, unless you plan on running a larger prop?

Thanks Pat, so probably not ideal then?

Wait and see if anyone else chimes in, PW in particular  :)

The 15 series is a very good F2B motor. Pretty sure Paul tried just about everything else, and came back to Plettenberg in the end.

The Stunt News Contest Results section is The source for who’s flying what, at least for contests run by conscientious CDs of good moral character, who file complete reports.

So? can you point me in the direction of a relevant CD of "good moral character" who can answer the question posed?

North, I should think, although the undersigned is not currently in the same place as the data. The upcoming SN issue will have three contests with the requisite information, one having it a tad lower on the list than you may expect.

I am back at Stonehedge now and can report that I've seen two instances of 15-series Plettenbergs being used for stunt: Paul Walker's 15-22 and Uncle Jimby's 15-20.

Good to know, thank you for the info. It looks like the 15-24 is for slower rpm and bigger props and is not used by the “professionals” or Paul.

620 rpm/volt

15-24 on 6S would be about the same RPM as my 15-20 on 5S, so should work fine in governor mode.
No big advantage to this unless you can find a 6S battery that weights the same as the TP 5S 2800 :)
