The new Edge ESC comes in 50 and 75 amp flavors. How do you calculate what is the right amount of capacity for an ESC? Most of the motors I am aware of being used in full-size stunters in the 650-inch range seem to be flying on earlier version 45 amp or thereabouts ESCs, mostly Castle. If this has been asked before and I missed it, I apologize in advance.

Hi Mike
A quick check of the Phoenix Edge Lite shows the 50A & 75A pretty much match on most specs, with the 75A is a tick heavier. As you note the old Phoenix 45 would fly anything we got, I do not see any compelling reason to select the 75A over the 50A.

For smaller ships up to about 45oz ish (35-40 IC) you can also use the Castle Talon 35 series ESC. These are simple units without data loggers but do have the "control line" governor mode that allows you to employ the "motor brake" while in governor mode. Castle told me they are good to the name plate amperage (i.e. Talon 35 - 35 amps). They are a good price ($58 for the Talon 35 @ Tower) and should work well for our needs.
