oiling your electric motor
« on: February 14, 2012, 05:44:20 PM »
I started out this year with a brand new Axi in my E-Sultan for 2012.The motor was making a bunch more noise than my last years rig, but otherwise worked just fine.It was apparent that it was bearing noise .I got a loan of a bottle of "Tri-Flow" , which comes with a fine plastic tube for precision application. The motor is now just as quiet as it should be. The bearing appeared to be sealed , that is, I couldn't actually see the balls , but a few drops apparently made their way into the right place and did their magic. One member of our club is a locksmith , and says that stuff is great on the door locks of your automobile .He has been using it for years. Keith Varley

Would a light weight oil with molybdenum suspended in it be good for bearings ? Or what about air tool oil ? I see places selling oil in small bottles specifically for bearings but feel it may be substituted for something of equal value but less expensive.

"MOST" of these bearings I have seen are  shielded ( metal shields)  so oil will work its way through the small shields fairly easy!!

Thanks Will,
The site you found was very helpful and informative. Gonna lube the bearings with light machine oil after every 30-40 flights.
