Extra part after EMax BL 2820/07 strip!
« on: January 17, 2015, 03:27:12 PM »
I stripped down an EMax BL2820/07 Electric motor, so that I could remove the shaft  - to part off surplus length on my lathe.  When reassembling I discovered a part I had not noticed on strip down  :-[

It is a small piece of phosphor bronze tube - OD 6mm, ID 5mm, Length 1mm.  It slips neatly over the drive shaft.  I can't see any purpose for it - and if I fit it internally, it creates what seems an excessive gap between revolving and fixed parts of the motor.  I guess it might fit between the Eclip and the back of the motor - but it seems unnecessary there.

Could anybody tell me where it should fit?

One of the F2B guys over here has kindly advised me.  In case anybody else has a similar problem in the future, and is searching for an answer I've been advised that

it is for the spacer between the bearing and the circlip at the rear of the motor. It stops the circlip rubbing on the outer track of the rear bearing. If you look at a few of these, they have different length spacers, to take up excessive end play, or indeed reduce the tension between the bearings. A small amount of end float is best.
