New Tru-Turn electric spinner

Tru-Turn  is manufacturing a new Spinner for electric application.

AS you can see, they milled out the front of the spinner to accept air intake, and their
lightened backplate has machined into it a fan array to pull in air to wash
through the prop shaft behind it and into the motor.

Haven't tried it out yet. Just got it from Rudy Taube.  This particular 3 inch spinner
was manufactured to fit my electric Shark, in a pusher configuration.
They slotted it to fit APC 6.5 pitch.

I don't know if they are in solid production yet.  The machined parts are near perfect to the eye.
This one cost about $115.   The price will no doubt go down with more interest.

they are cool - TURBO COOL (as they are called)

there was a post a few weeks back on them - I think Eric at RSM is stocking them.

Is the fan on the backplate set up for pusher rotation? When I talked to them at Toledo they were not aware we were using reverse rotation and were only set up for tractor props with these spinners. If they have reverse rotation I would say they were listening and responding.

It might be interesting to mount a fuselage on an automobile and run it down the road to see which way the air goes through the spinner, and also to see if the motor runs hotter or cooler with this spinner compared to a sealed spinner.

Bob;   the fan on the backplate is "pusher"  so , yes, they can do it.  I think Rudy talked to them about it and got them to do a few prototypes.

I think it makes more sense to have the fan built into the motor, less weight and vibration and cost.

I would rather see a fan on teh back plate to push air OUT from the motor compartment.

Yes all,
They do cut the backplates for pusher props. Just picked mine up the other day going to do some flying with it tomorrow. For those who want the air blowing away from the motor just order the backplate for normal rotation or vice versa  S?P

For me, I do not compete at the highest levels $115 is more than I am willing to spend for a spinner.  I would rather spend the money on a motor, batteries, ESC, or timers.  Given it won't make much difference in my scores I will continue to fly without a spinner.

I doubt it makes any difference to those that will and won't buy these spinners, but mine came to somewhere between $75 and $85. They are very light and very well balanced so it is easy on the motor and bearings. I probably would never put one on a sport flier but won't hesitate on 1 and 1a.
