New Charger - X4 Multicharger
« on: November 29, 2010, 07:25:47 AM »
Guys,
I saw an ad for the X4 Multicharger by HItec in MA and also from Atlanta Hobbies ($153), seems this unit can charge up to four packs simultaneously. Has anyone checked this out? I now use a TP 610C and have never had a problem with charging my packs but can only charge one at a time. The one thing I really want top shelf is the charger, the problems with lipo's seem to come from improper chargers. I know of HItec but have not use any of their stuff. Can anyone comment on the quality and safety of there equipment?

Guys,

I did a little web searching and it seems that this is the same unit that is offered by HobbyKing as the Quattro 4x6s, 200W (http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=10327) except it is $89.99 from HK. Specs look the same. Anyone hear anything about either of these units and why would HItec's be worth $60 more?

Best,        DennisT

I've been working with the Hitec X4 for a while, in connection with a review for Flying Models magazine. It does indeed independently charge four batteries of any type. Each output is limited to 50 watts, though, so 1C charging is possible only for LiPo batteries that aren't too large in capacity and in number of cells; e.g., a 4S cell can be charged at 1C if it is no larger than about 3200 mAh [50W/(4 x 3.7V) = 3.4 A]. You can charge larger capacities/more cells in series all right, but it will take more than hour to fully charge them. Right now I could only find the Flight Power/Thunder Power and HP type balance adapters available (two FP/TP are supplied).

If you use each output to its full 50W capability, you need about 20A from your DC source, either a car battery or a good regulated AC power supply with a 13.6V or so output at 20A or more.
