My Max Bee
« on: October 12, 2015, 06:06:10 PM »
I've had the chance to get this, and didn't think twice...
This is Igor's Max Bee, built and finished by my good friend "Magic" Dutra and used to belong to my friend Rafael Carneiro.
He was kind enough to cut me a deal and I am flying this ship for a while now...

Igor

Rafael will have a new ship built using the composite wings he got from you...
I used the jettibox today to change a few things and it was so easy that I thought I'd done something wrong...
Not needing a laptop is heaven, plus it Works pretty much like my car's fuel injection management unit, 4 buttons and very easy to set...
Still geting used to the accelerometer, so my bottoms are high..LOL...
I'm taking the Max Bee for a first contest next weekend... Wish me luck!

Chris, the Stilleto will get finshed soon, very soon...

Yes that is right. Jetibox is good tool, it was not so easy to make communication, but it was worth of it, I cannot imagine having notebook in field box all the time with other tools :- ))

Well, I've had my first scary moment...LOL...
OK, not funny at all, actually...
In the middle of the square eight, the motor shut down...  Was able to land no problems, but then, before my friend could get the ship, the motor came back alive and as i Always keep the handle in my hand, I was able to take off and wait for the baterry to run out.
Not flying until everything is checked and the on-off switch is replaced.. though I haven't tested it yet, i bet that was the problem.
Anyway, eletrics will have their own problems...
I am glad no bad happened...

That happens if ESC gets overheated, it cuts the power and when it coold down, starts again ... be sure that you have it in stream of fresh air and that proper side is exposed. Usually the flat side are FETS and should be cooled, the "component" side is usualy side of processor etc, it does not heat.

I have seen a Max Bee fly stunt.  It flew pretty good stunt.  Looking at yours, I see that it has not flown enough yet to be aerodynamically optimized.  The flight time it takes for this optimization will be the same flight time it takes Igor, multiplied by the ratio of insect density per cubic meter in Brazil relative to that in central Europe.  There may be some geographic adjustment for insect species.  See Igor for the entomological constant, Ke, for your locale.

Or, you could use the handy-dandy bug sprayer method. Insert appropriate amount of bugs into sprayer. Stand in front of plane and thrustline and apply bugs to leading edge of wing and nose of plane. Stop when appropriate depth is achieved.

Coming back to the MaxBee..
I took it to my friend Rogério's place and we found out that the soldering at one ofthe on/off switch had failed, causing the motor to stop...
Rogério tested the switch and it was OK, so we redid the soldering and rearranged the battery/esc compartment so it is OK now..
But, what you know? I realized there was a strange mark on the motor like it was rubbing against the inside of the nose and voilá.. the lock washer was loose on the axel... somehow it popped out of the groove and the nose prevented the motor from falling apart..

I am beginning to believe there's some "santeria" on the Works here...LOL...
Anyway, eletrics will have their own problems...  I am just happy that there has not been any bad consequences...

Well ... just like IC has specific issues (how much we take care about tubing, tank, oil etc), also electric needs maintenance. Model is vibrating, so no wonder cables will not live forever, especiacially soldered points are sensitive, every soldered cable should be fixed also on place where the wire is solder free. It is also necessary around switch, leads to timers, connectors etc.Especially places bent at every battery change need proper design (wires order/fixing) and periodical inspection.

Congrats, Amigo!!!
Was it electricity, the Max Bee design, or your maybe improved flying skills that got you that trophy though?
Maybe all three, eh?
Congrats!!
