Guys, this hopefully will be my new 2014 PA ship. I have had a few test/trim flights and things look promising, but time will tell. I went the extra mile with full rivet and interior detail. Hopefully it's flying qualities will be worth it.

Plane is my version of the F86D build with a pathfinder wing and tail. everything else is mine.

Power: eflite 25, Ice lite 50, Hubin Timer, 3300 4S

Outstanding!

Nice detail. Sure wish the photos were larger.

I look at your paint work and I see confidence. A really good thing.

Any secrets you can give up? Rivets?

rivets are the easiest part. RC 56 canopy glue

Just put a puddle on a piece of cardboard or what ever, take a toothpick and dab into glue and then dab on the plane. Try it on a scrap piece of anything, you will get the hang of it pretty quick. I usually draw a line to follow and then just set a scale or ruler beside the line to dab every 1/4 or 1/8 of an inch.

Goes really fast once you figure out where to put the lines. The airbrush shadowing make the panel lines, no need for ink lines the shadowing does it for you.

That is a lot of work and I see you enjoy doing it. Hope it flies as well as it looks in the pictures. Bet it looks even better in person.

Fuse is finished with .5 oz fiberglass and west system, wings are SLC with Polyspan over top, tail is all silkspan. Color is all Brodak dope with 2 part urethane
clear overtop. I like the toughness and ease of application of Polyspan, but I really dont like how much dope it takes to finish. I should have applied a few more coats of silver to completely cover the weave in the wings but I did not want to weight so I went for the weathered aluminium look........worked half way

I have to ask, where did you come up with the unit markings you used?
My dad worked on F-86 D models at Geiger field near Spokane,,
the markings I recall are VERY similar to what you used, especially the aft fuse markings

My dad painted a lot of the pilots helmets, and the aircraft while stationed there,,

I mashed several schemes together to come up with the design. Most all of the designs came from the web' "typing images for F86D", I combined what I liked, may have changed colors etc to arrive at what you see. The dog or wolf or whatever came from a model I found on the web.

So the long answer to a short questions, I made up a lot of them

that splains the puzzling looks I gave myself,, I didnt remember the rest of the markings,, but that one on the backbone was hardcore the same,,

today is my dads birthday,, so it kind of struck a chord,, We dont get to talk about planes anymore, I miss it something fierce,, he would have been proud to see even part of it portrayed,
he was elated when he found a decal set for 1/48 scale plastic models of his paint scheme,, my brother and I each built one for him,,

Did you measure them as you applied them ?

PJ,

The most time was spent drawing with light pencil the lines where the dots would be placed. Once that is done, I just took a strip of 1/4 graph paper and laid it along line and started placing glue dots at every tick, that part goes really quickly. after a few lines you can eye the spacing.....no one will every know
