The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Watts To Fly? does seem to be a common question, but I'm not sure you should name a plane after it.

Here are a couple I'm using on new original electric designs:

Current Affair

Ohm's Outlaw

Veddy nize.  Veddy nize.

Bob Hunt

I dunno -- that seems a strange name for an airplane.

Okay, enough Enlightenment literary references! "Candide" indeed! Besides, I think someone else here already claimed 'VoltAire" as a model name, clever and iconoclastic as it may be.

I have dibs on ReVolt for the one I am building now. Since it is more than just an idea I get the copyright.

Can't wait to see Larry's Ampura  in AmPerson soon!

Hi Mike,

Yeah, I'm the guy.  Finally pulled the tape off of the VoltAire beta model.  Here are a couple of pics of the beta model and two teaser pics of the alpha model.

We couldn't resist (groan) naming these birds VoltAire.  Anyone who could, at that time, get thrown out of Paris a couple of times and live to tell about it is alright by me.

Hi Bruce:

Yes, Voltaire was an extraordinary man, and courageous to boot.

Your VoltAire looks great! The round fuselage with a turtledeck  could not have been an easy build but the result is worth the effort. Is that a foam wing, or sheeted over a built up structure? And most important, any flights yet? Looks like you live in a rural area so probably no complaints from the neighbors about the buzzing sound of the prop. I'm sure the members here would like to hear about how you constructed the model.

I wish I had thought of "VoltAire" first, but c'est la vie!

Mike,

Thanks.  Both planes are currently as pictured.  The beta might be ready to go in a few weeks (need to fix some paint boo-boos, apply the ink-jet decals and shoot some clear dope.)  The alpha model has a built-up, sheeted wing.  I don't want to get too excited until air-worthiness is determined ;)

Okay (and you're gonna' love this...), everyone knows of my penchant to trim my ships in earth tones (bronze, copper, etc.). How about the name... (drum roll here please...) Brownout!

Bob,
Knowing your background "Brownout" is good. If Bob Gialdini was still active, he could have an airplane called "Whiteout".

I always liked "Dead Short" but someone already has that one I think..

So I'll add "Ample Amps" , "Ampster" , "WATTZUP" , "WATTZIT", hmm beginning to ramble... I'll stop now.   :-[ H^^
