Since my previous " hands on" request for help didn't work. Maybe I can post pictures of my P-51 as it progresses and you guys could help along. It may take me a while to post the pictures. It's a 600 sq in. Al Rabe type, originally for OS46. At the moment I don't have any E equipment ,or knowledge of what to buy. I have removed all the gas hardware from the plane and the nose has been cut in half. It needs to be modified to accomodate the electric stuff. Is that ok?

Hello Fernando,
About 5 years ago I modified a Rabe .46 size Bearcat for electric. I have construction photos on my computer. But I will have to hunt for them because these drives are so darn big things get lost. If you are interested drop me an email.

Once you get some pictures posted, I'm sure you will get plenty of suggestions. One setup out of many that would work, Power 25 or equivalent, Ice lite 50, Hubin FM9 timer system, If its light enough a 4s 3300 mah lipo battery. Then you may need a charger and probably a power supply too. There are plenty of power systems that will work. Some will cost less than this some more a lot depends on your budget and how far you plan on taking this

I remember your post on the Bearcat about 5 yr ago. Back then I was toying into getting into E but gave up, considering it to be too expensive. Now I am older, retired n wiser(fatter too). I like your set up on that picture. I may follow suit.

Fernando,
Since you removed the IC stuff (I assume motor mounts too) you will need to decide if you are going to go with a front or rear mount motor. I have used front mounts on all my ships with very good results, others have be equally happy with the rear mount. With either arrangement you will need to install a strong firewall/mount that should be at least 3/16" plywood. To this you can bolt the motor direct or use the X mount that comes with most motors. When you install the firewall/mount I recommend that you install at least two small wood screws from the fuse sides into the firewall/mount as well as strong epoxy glue. Another option is to buy a motor crutch from Tom Morris (Tom's Building Service, Phone 256 820-1983, E-mail ctmorris@cableone.net). Tom's motor mount crutches are front mount in 1 1/2" and 2" diameters will fit most popular motors.
Next you need to settle on a battery selection. If the ship is a 46 size you can go with either a 4S1P 3300 or a 5S1P 2200, check the weights for the brand you want and pick the lightest pack. For a 60 size ship you need either a 4S1P 3800 or 5S1P 2700 mah pack again for the brand you like pick the lightest one (I have used the Thunder Power Pro lite packs).
Next, pick your motor - 46 size would be similar to an AXI 2826-10 for 4cell, AXI 2826-12 for a 5cell. For a 60 size you could look at the E-flite 32's. With the five cell pack you could also use the AXI 2826-12 for this size if the ship is built light (<65 oz total ish).
The ESC I would recommend the Castle Creation 50 lite and a FM9 timer from Hubin. Check at the top of the Forum for the setup guide for the ESC.
Best, DennisT
