My Nat's Plane
« on: July 20, 2014, 04:38:38 PM »
Here is my Nat's plane.  I didn't get any pictures posted before because I didn't have it finished until just before we left.  It came out at 65 oz with battery on board, Zippy 3700 4S, Castle 45, Hubin timer and APC prop.  I had a lot of help working out the trim while there from several people who I want to say thank you to:  Dave Fitzgeral, Brett Buck, Dough Moon, Will Demauro, and most of all Charlie Reeves who worked me hard to get the plane flying right.  Now I just need more time on the ship.  I even got a compliment from Bill Werewage which was cool.

Sorry about that (that's what I get for typing when I'm not wearing my reading glasses).  I used an E-Flite 25, ran flawlessly.

Now you have your weapon for next year.   It was great seeing the results and happenings of the NATS by the various reporters.  I see we are going to have to get Ben and my grandson James together.   I have him doing climbs/dives and wingovers.   Don't want to push him too hard.  Tell Ben the old DOC says congrats on his second place.

For a plane you fought so hard with the finish on, it looks really nice.

Thanks Randy, looks better in the pic than up close.  It seems to fly very well, so it may get refinished before next season.  I had mask pull up paint (my fault, not the fault of the mask), we shot the clear and the plane fell on the floor overnight and busted a cell on the botom and dinged the nose, then the Wednesday before the Nat's I was flying and 3 of the mounting bolts came loose and chewed up the nose which I rebuilt and touched up the day before we left.  I'm going to touch it up better now that we are home.

Thanks.  It's a Geo XL wing, around 59-60" I think.  I asked Bill Werewage about the wing area and he said it's around 720" (he said he never sat down and figued the area exact).

James,

It seems that some planes just seem to fight us every step of the way. If my new ship flies as well as I hope, it may get a rework on the finish over the winter.
