Looking for a longer prop adapter collet assembly
« on: January 08, 2012, 06:18:02 PM »
I'm using an E-flite motor that is front mounted.  To get the nose shape the way I want required the motor to set back approx.  3/4" behind the nose ring.  The standard E-flite collet that fits the 5mm shaft and has a 1/4"-28 prop shaft isn't long enough.  I need something that gives about 3/8" of so more length while retaining the 1/4" - 28 shaft.  Any ideas?

you could try the scorpion one with the 45mm long shaft and put a packer/washer behind the prop

I was going to suggest finding a longer shaft for the motor, perhaps thats your best option, I have not seen a longer collet assembly
For years the rat race had me going around in circles, Now I do it for fun!

Have you tried loosening the shaft set screws and pushing the shaft further forward? thats what I did with mine.

Pete,
I've got it pushed through as far as I can get it.  I might look for a longer shaft as I had thought of that.

Look at E-cubed adapters. Radical RC carries them.  :)

Lee Machine Shop (see vendor section) can probably fix you up.  Lee could make an aluminum screw-on extinction that would move the prop thrust washer forward as well as extend the prop thread. Use lock-tite to lock it in place.

Lee has done some work for me - he is good and reasonably priced.

PS it may require modifying the original adaptor- contact Lee he can work it out.

Bob,
I got a longer adapter from gobrushless that filled the bill.  It has a 6mm X 1mm shaft as opposed to a 1/4" x  28 but I had Jim Lee make some special nuts that were half threaded for the metric shaft and with 1/4" x 28 so that I could still use an Aero Products spinner.
