Title: Lipos resting
Post by: Vincent Corwell on December 07, 2009, 01:16:02 AM
Because there is a 10-15 minute walk from car park to our flying site
I bought 4 lipo batteries for my ENobler, only charge at home and this
has worked out well up to now. I re-read the storage instructions recently
and I realised that sometimes I bring the batteries , charged, to the field
and for one reason or another was unable to fly, high winds, rain, road
closures etc. The batteries then remained fully charged until the next
opportunity arose and so on, at one stage this turned into a 2 month wait
so now I use a 'Store' setting on my charger to discharge them, I wondered
how long is safe to keep them fully charged but unused, only topping up to
100% say the day before I fly ?  Is this a common problem with Lipos ?

I recently took out a 2S 1200 LiPo that I had left in the flower pot for a couple of years... fully charged, it seems.

The pack is pretty lazy but I think it is recovering: I topped up the pack and flew the R/C foamy until power was really weak, then I charged it and flew again in a couple of days. It seemed stronger the second time.

So, the loong storage at full charge was not good, but cycling the battery appears to help it recover.
