Lipo Surgery
« on: November 16, 2015, 06:20:10 PM »
Had a 4s pack that wouldn't charge because of one bad cell. All the other cells were good so I took the pack apart. So easy, now I'm kicking myself for throwing those other battery packs away. Could have built another good battery pack. Anyway, started playing with the dead cell to see if i could revive it. Tried to bring it up to 3v on the NIMH setting but it keeps shutting off at about 1v. Why won't it keep charging, do I have to re-set NIMH limits or something?

Thanks,
MM

Is your well being, your family's well being and your house worth the price of a lipo. If so just keep playing with these lipos like that!! Is it really worth it. Lipo fires are real, They happen!! One wrong move and poof. Look up lipo fires on You Tube. Treat them and respect them and you will enjoy many happy flights. Sorry if I sound harsh but I really don't want to hear about another avoidable tragedy on the internet, TV, or newspaper.

I have this battery with a wire that has been separated from the circuit board underneath the outer covering. I am not willing to try to fix even this. I charge in a fire proof safe and store them in a case with the lid shut and locked at all times.

Thanks for your concern guys but, all safety protocol is strictly adhered to at the turkey ranch.

Fred, easy fix, that loose red wire just connects to the main positive wire. They are both soldered to the same terminal inside. If you don't want to strip back the pack covering you could just remove some of the insulation on the red wire and solder it on then cover it with heat shrink.

I have to admit it, when I see the topic name for this thread I immediately think of liposuction.  Sorry, sometimes I just can't help myself.

Could you post a pic on the repair?  like swapping the cells around etc.

The inner 2 cells go through slots in the circuit board, the outer two just wrap around the edge. Can't put it back together until I get another good cell but there are videos on Utube. The cells are held together with double stick tape. Take lots of time pulling them apart or you'll bend the cell. This was a Hyperion, other brands may be different.

This is easy to fix. We have the balance leads come off there often. It's just a quick solder joint.

I DID MY LIPO SURGERY WITH SUCESS !!!!!

I use a silver glue , yes a glue that conduct electricity.

I´m using my battery again with no problems

I know that is  very difficult to do solder /weld in battery poles , because they are aluminium
This glue made this easy

Thank you
