I loaded a web page on our Lafayette Esquadrille CL club website regarding some battery safety and pictures. It contains a link to the instructions on how to safely dispose of a Lipo battery

I wish Bob Hunt would slide in here for comment.  He has vast experience with battery powered aircraft and am sure he has the knowledge for proper disposal.

I discharge them using an appropriate light bulb till the bulb goes out.  Then I short out the main leads together overnight, then I throw them away.  I do this all outside over concrete just to be safe.

I just did the same thing to a 4s puffy lipo. Soldered leads to a (very small) 12v car bulb. Took a few hours for the bulb to go out from storage charge. Checked the voltage and it was .25v, twisted the leads together and soldered, no explosions yet.

Then I shot out the main leads together overnight, then I throw them away.

Crist, there's no need for that.  Just twist the leads together.  Sometimes I think you Midwesterners are trigger happy.

Right you are Howard!  I did edit the post though.  Hope all is well.
