Well, I had to share this experience with all of you. I had a sterling CL X-wing fighter that I showed my son and he had to help daddy build it. So we sat down and built it Friday and yesterday and fitted it with an Emax 2805-2800Kv motor, Tower Pro 18 amp controller, & 2S 1300 zippy cells. It weighs a shameful 8 ozs and with it's configuration, I put it on as much dacron I could find. It is on 27' and uses a Cox 5 x 3 3 blade pusher prop. It was a bit breezy today, but it still actually flew. Barely had enough lift to maintain flight on the downwind side, but up wind it flew fine. I set the timer for 45sec (about as much fun as I could stand) and we flew it 6 times. We brought it home with minor scratches and a smiling little boy. A better model would get him flying sooner, but certainly not equal the cool points.
So the truth here is if you put enough power in a rock, it will fly. Lap times were about 3 to 3.5 sec/lap @ 75% throttle. Daddy sure was dizzy after running around Brady keeping the Rebel fighter airborne. It has serious cool points, but I think hanging it from his ceiling in his bedroom would be much cooler!!
