Latest Electric for this season
« on: April 06, 2012, 08:20:42 AM »
Guys,

Thought I would share me newest creation. Charger SV.

SV: for the SV11 wing and tail I used....why re-invent a great wheel.

Charger: to emphasize the idea for the automotive cowling area....great for effective cooling and of course the electric power.

Power is my proven 5 Cell and e-flite 32, castle 50 and Hubin FM9 timer.

I'll second what Derek said - both posts!

Looks to me that you have (again) moved farther toward making a true electric airplane and not just a conversion of an IC design.

Thanks guys,

The funny part about making it an electric design was I had to much cooling air coming through. HB~> I had used my normal magnetic hatch system for a clean look, and the wind coming through the fuse blew the hatch off.....totally trashing my horizontal and vertical stab. Lucky for me it was still in primer.....it is really nice to be able to trim out a plane before you go to the effort on painting...no oil Derek  hint hint.

Thanks again guys

Yea Yea, My planes come off the board perfectly trimmed, so there is no reason for me to worry about silly stuff like that.   ;D

Oil makes a good lubricant for penetrating through the high winds too. LL~

Amen to Derek, Derek, Dennis, and Jeff.  I also like the hatch release, the shaded lettering, and the ink-line continuation of the air outlet.

Tim:

That is really nice.  So often when one aims to do something new and nice, one manages the 'new' part just fine, but kinda falls down on the 'nice'.  You've hit both nails on the head -- good going!

Because -- just going for "automotive inspired" isn't necessarily going to mean you automatically hit a home run:

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

An Aero-Edsel is going to have to wait until I go back to doing full-fuse models.  I don't think one can really properly capture the aesthetics of that grille on a profile.

I'd say "which is much nicer than an Edsel", but that might be seen as damming it with faint praise.

It's just nice!!

Jose,

I just put the prop on have not flown it yet....but it is really nice. Perfectly Balanced.

Hope to find out this weekend.

Thanks for all of the nice comments. #^

Tim,

I think you could make a really nice full bodied stunter with a chrome toilet seat for the cowl.....I'll have to think about that for next year.....NOT n~

Excellent execution in style and finish!  I thought I had already posted, but it ain't here.......

Wayne, Bill,

I used AutoAir (brand) water based base coat for the first time. There is a learning curve to spraying it.....but the nice thing is if you screw up, you just wipe it off with water,.......ask me how I know....I did it twice  HB~>. you spray very light coats until you have coverage. I then you used automotive urethane clear for the top coat....1 coat and your done, no rubbing no buffing.

I think I will use it again, I put a little more weight on then needed partly because i was figuring out how to use the paint. I think you could do a full finish for 4 6 ounces.

Expense wise you, you could paint an entire plane with 4 ounce container of base, 4 ounce container of color and then your trim colors in 4 ounce bottles as well.

You do need to buy the thinner which is most likely 90% water with some type of catalyst...alchol, who knows ???

I could have spent about 50$ in paint and the clear is 100 a gallon which will last forever, you use very little.

Let me know if you have any other questions

Thanks

Jose,

Flew about 5 flights this weekend. I had to adjust the RPM's up about 900
to get the same lap times, 5.4 seconds. The prop sounds nice, looks nice, and is very
smooth. I have the battery capacity to handle the jump, but I may have
re-pitch it slightly. It seems to lag a bit in the second turn over top
on the hourglass. Everywhere else it is great.

Not sure it is the wonder prop I was looking for, but I will keep tweaking
on it.
