New Projects?
« on: March 02, 2007, 09:34:50 AM »
I want to put some life back into this forum, so lets see (everybody loves pictures  ;D) what your new electric projects are. Bob Hunt already posted his in the open forum. If you're not building anything new are you making any changes to a current setup? Anything goes here, not just world class stunt ships. Lets see the sport stuff to!! I should have some pictures in the next week or two of what I am working on.

Mike,

Have a number of Electric Speed photos, but somehow can not convey them to Stunthangar in spite of a couple of hours of trying.

Hi Mike,

I also tried to post photos of my electric P-40, with the same result as Will had.   HB~>

I used the procedure suggested by Bill Little on page 10 of the open forum. I do not have any problems uploading my photos when using AOL, just here. A puzzlement? Maybe the 1s and 0s are different out here in So Cal?  ;)

When the upload becomes doable, I will post photos of my P-40 and my Vector 40 with a completely rebuilt "electric" front end.   :)

I recently took over Frank Carlisle's electric smoothie project that was an outshoot of Rick Sawicki's electric smoothie. Rick initially developed the plane as an easy and inexpensive way into electric and not an all out max performance plane. It used a 3 cell 3700mah polyquest lipo.

I decided after reading much of what has been in this forum to go ahead and go to full power on the plane with a 4 cell 4000mah polyquest lipo power system and running it in helicopter governor mode as has been discussed extensively here. I've talked Rick Sawicki into comin along and upgrading his in the same manner and we will be flying and developing them together. Hopefully I'll be able to fly it in OTS locally as I only fly in local contests and don't travel. But if not I am going to fly it in some classic contests the beginning of the year. I think Frank has described the plane well enough so I won't go into that. Its just your basic smoothie arf at this point. I needed only remove the battery bearers that Frank had put in the fuel tank bay to get the 4 cell to fit. And there is so much room above the wing in the Smoothie fuse that the 4 cell can be slid in above the wing. This also lets it be slid back considerably behind the leading edge so balance is not negatively affected.

I'm in the middle of an ECL Pegasus with a set of retractable landing gear.  I've been having a blast putting that together I just hope it works... if everything works and it flies I will be certain to post pictures in the List your setup section!

I'm in the process of building two Ring Rat 250's.  These are my first effort at ECL and are intended as trainers for teaching my two young grandsons how to fly.  I have the first one nearly ready for final assembly and I'll post a pic or two once it's assembled.  Many thanks to John Prator for first proving to me that the design will stand up to the service I intend for it and second for pointing me in the direction of some lower cost batteries and a charger.

I'm very impressed with the kit from Stevens Aero.  Maybe all laser cut kits fit together like this one but on this one the pieces nearly assemble themselves.  It comes with an excellent manual, reminiscent of the old Heathkit manuals where the next construction step is described and there's a check box beside it for you to check off when you've completed the step.

Hi Mike,

I just completed another RH Stunter ---- "ILLUSION". It's a profile with a foam wing and components made from 6mm Depron sheeted with 1/32 balsa.

I hope to test it this weekend and take some shots of it.  I will post them at that time.

Ron

Some pics an vid of the Darkstar II. This a modified Eratix fuse that thas been reversed engineered by Frank Willams and the laser parts cut by Eric Rule. The wing is a lost foam build from a Stiletto. Heres the video of the lazer parts laid out on my table saw. And some pics of the finished plane. Im still trimming (always!) But it's good for a test bed.

It has lasted long enough to get our Brodak Super Clown Electric Arf in here. LL~  Strictly an OOB build and using the parts that came with it.  Delays have multiplied around here, and it is about ready to finally get it into the air.  I am held up in the progress at this moment picking out, ordering, and then receiving some more batteries for it.  it comes with only one so I am planning on getting two more for it.  Denny A set this system up and has said it will power a decent classic size or another profile similar to a Brodak Warbird.  Maybe a Dolphin in the cards for a bit later on.  It will be put through "trials" in comparison with a kit built Brodak Super Clown that has a McCoy .29 Red Head Hybrid in it and flies real well.

An electric ARC Impact, from one of Doug Moon's ARCs.  E-Flite 46. 3000mAh 6s battery, FM-9 timer and 50A ICE heavy Castle Controller.  Crashed twice already, my fault, but shows signs of flying well. Here's an early picture, not quite as pretty at the moment, but will be back to trim soon.
