KR Governor
« on: December 28, 2013, 01:38:26 PM »
We have received some inquiries from folks who purchased KR Governors in the past 3 or 4 months. It appears that in some cases the flight time did not run to the limit set. In other cases it was reported that the motor ran for 10-20 seconds and then shut down.

After a fair bit of research into what was causing this we have determined that the firmware (the computer code that controls all of the functions) was the problem. Keith Renekle found that one of the cables that send the firmware from his computer to the governor had developed an intermittent short. Since the short was intermittent most of this new stock of governors work properly but there are some that have corrupted firmware. These governors will not work properly.

I am requesting that anyone who has a KR Governor that is not working perfectly send it back to RSM so that we can reinstall the firmware. Please send to RSM Distribution, 21899 Heliotrope Ln, Wildomar, CA 92595.

Regards
Eric Rule

Eric,
Do the problems show up every time or just once in awhile?

Hi Crist;

The problem shows up after 1 or 2 runs (at least that is what I have been told). The most common problem is in the flight time function. If your governor is not running for the full amount of time that you set please assume the file is corrupted. Just send it back to me and I will check it out and reinstall the firmware if it is required.

Eric

With an intermittent connection that involves the transfer of code the problem could be anywhere.  It really depends on what line the problem was on, address or data.  If address, which address bit same for the data.  I had one of my timers with the problem, I have the ability to reload the code and the problem was corrected.  I passed the info on to Keith and he was very concerned and finally he traced it down to a bad connection.  I am not sure if it was between the PIC and the timer or the USB port to the PIC.  Anyway Eric now has capability to reload the firmware and I took him through the process.  I too can help with re programming your timer.  Between Eric and myself we will reprogram any KR timer that anybody requests.  The reprogramming only takes seconds so quick turn around is assured.  I can be contacted by email.
