Which power system....
« on: August 05, 2013, 04:51:49 PM »
I am almost ready to sart building something. It's been a while since I got back from NY and caringfor my Mom. No that I have a new trailer to live and work in.
Here is my question. I can either build a 1/2A pathfinger or a ringmaster 207 i think its is.
Which would be the right system for it that RSM carries.
Or which do you think would work best best ?

Have any of you used Rsm's plug in systems and would the .061 size be big enough ? Or do I need to have a bit more power for these size 1/2A's.
Surely some of you here have tried electric on something this size??

For a couple of years now I have been using a KR timer/governor, Castle Creations Thunderbird ESC, and Arrowind motor with very good success.  The complete setup is in the "List your setup" section.  The plane is a remarkable flyer, I can say this because a number of expert flyers have put it to the test with good results.

Jim
Below is the setup in my 1/2a Pathfinder.  I would love to take full credit for it, but I was just starting out back then and got some help from Dennis Adamisin who had already published his 1/2a Pathfinder.  The ESC and timer/governor are my contribution, the motor and prop are Denny's.

Arrowind 2210-25 kv=1560
APC-E 7x5 Pusher prop.
3s 1300 and 1350 Li Po batteries, two of each.
Castle Creations Thunderbird 38amp  ESC (non governing).
Timer:  KR timer with built in governor mode.  Startup delay 10 seconds, flight time 5min.-35sec., vari-gain value 4, and finally RPM around 11K.
Spider wire fishing line (multi-strand) 10lb test 45' (eyelet to eyelet) lines.
All up weight is 15 ounces including battery.
1/4 ounce of tip weight.

All ESC wires, except connection to timer, are cut to minimum length and soldered together.  Battery is located under the plane at the CG.  Covering is Polyspan with a couple of coats of dope.  With the 7x5 prop the landing gear will need to be modified to give the prop tips more clearance.

Hope this helps.
