I destroyed two LiPo batteries :(

Chalk it up to old age and a brain fart.  The other day, after a flying session, I placed two of my LiPo packs on my discharge setup.  I forgot that I had done so.  A day later I noticed that they were still plugged up.  As it turns out the discharges pull a littled current even after the discharge cycle is complete.  The 4 cell batteries were down to 3 volts total and of course would not charge.  Anyway I thought I would share this so others may not make the same fatal mistake.  Photo attached of my discharge setup.

Sorry to hear about the lipos, but its a good reminder to always watch your batteries while charging or discharging. I think you would need a y connector to use it but at least it would yell at you if the voltage got too low.

Doable but doesn't always work. NOT recommended on most rc forums!!! and is risky!!! If you attempt this make sure that you do this in a SAFE PLACE and watch over them . Make sure nothing is around that you cant afford to burn. Even if successful the batteries usually lose some punch. For sport flying that may or may not matter.  What that guy did in that video I would never do!! He is out of his mind using those alligator clips and that battery he had was puffed. He is just looking for a fire!!!

I am sure there is a setting for the low voltage you want to achieve during the discharge. Since the only reason to use the discharge mode is an unused battery, my next thought is that I want to discharge to storage capacity, and you can set that up to 3.85V.

Yes you are correct, I use the storage settings on my chargers but I also set my discharge settings to 3.85.

Please don't do this, I had good luck with it at first but had 2 batts go up one in a plane in the air.

I do have my discharging stations set at 3.85 volts and they supposedly stop discharging at that level.  But the point of this post is that the setup continues to draw a small amount of current even when the discharge cycle is over.  Leaving the battery plugged up for hours, after the discharge cycle is complete, will not hurt anything.  However left plugged up for days will completely drain the battery and kill it.  It doesn't require an alarm system to solve this problem, just pay attention and unplug the batteries within hours of cycle end.    y1    y1
